I'm finally leaving the country of my birth for a two-week vacation in the British Isles. I'll be flying to Edinburgh, taking a train through York down to London, hitting Bath, heading over to Wales and catching the ferry to Ireland.
I have some downtime in between these places, so does anyone have any recommendations?
Unfortunately, I won't be there any time an Emergency Broadcast is on.

What is it with Americans and Bath??? My wife comes from Bath and she says there's always loads of Yanks there in the summer. So far everyone of our US friends that's come over has wanted to go to Bath.

My girlfriend wants to go there. It seems like a big tourist place from what I've read.

Bath's quite nice really. You should stop off at Bristol between Bath and Wales, even if just to have a nice look at HMS Great Britain.

You wanna get yourself over to Whitby for the Dracula exhibition, hope it isn't too scary, I went and the live actor had gone for his dinner or something so hopefully he'll be there if you go.
York is an absolutely beautiful city, will be a lovely view when going through it on the train. Only specific places I go are cinemas really so unless you want to see some noodly arthouse fare while you're around I can't be much more help than that I'm afraid.

I'll be stopping in York for a day and I'd love to go to Bristol, but I think it's off our itinerary.

Bristol is shit. It doesn't even realise and thinks it is great. But it's shit.

Ah well if you be stopping in York I highly recommend having a bite to eat at Betty's Tea Rooms, only trouble there is the usually huge cue during lunch times and evenings, it's worth the wait but if you can catch it during a lull extra happy times.

Couldn't agree more, Ray. I live about 25 miles away from Bristol and I genuinely can't stand the place. Horrible, scummy, dirty city and every single person there is miserable and dull. I lose the will to live a little bit more every time I have to go into Bristol city centre.

Almost done with the trip. I'm in Ireland right now. Back home on Thursday. York was fantastic, I wish I had eaten at Betty's. My impressions so far: English people are great. Scottish people are awesome too. Welsh people are very nice, like pixie people. And the Irish say "fook" a lot. Also, old Japanese people love Bath and the French like London. And German teenagers like Ireland. And I heard some drunks from Newcastle call someone a cockhead on the train down from Edinburgh. And the Scottish conductor threw a guy off the train for fighting. And I barely saw any fellow Americans until Dublin. We really do act like dipshits when we're abroad.

eh i live about 10 mins or so from Bristol and i done mind it, i haven't been there that much so,
i like bath cause i saw ray and ed there

Back in the States. Had a wonderful time. I've decided that I like the UK's infrastructure a lot more than that of the US. Driving on the left was easy, but trying to drive manual was a nightmare.

I was thinking about my visit to Bath earlier this evening with my girlfriend. I'd sure love to have dual citizenship.
